THE DOMESTIC LABOUR LAW

Here are the key highlights of the Labour Law.

Contract – Workers are entitled to a written employment contract in Arabic, authenticated through the Qiwa platform.

Probation Period – Workers may be placed on probation for up to 90 days, extendable to 180 days by agreement.

Recruitment Fees – Employers must cover recruitment fees, and salary deductions for employment costs are prohibited.

Wages – Salaries must be paid at least once a month through a bank account or Salary Card.

Working Hours – The maximum work hours are 8 per day (48 per week), reduced to 6 per day during Ramadan.

Rest & Breaks – Workers are entitled to daily rest breaks and a paid weekly rest day, usually on Friday.

Sick Leave & Health Insurance – Workers receive up to 120 days of sick leave per year, with health insurance provided by employers.

Annual Leave & Special Leaves – Workers are entitled to 21 days of annual leave, increasing to 30 days after five years, plus special leave for events like Hajj and maternity.

Termination of Employment & Changing Jobs – Either party can terminate an indefinite contract with notice; workers may transfer jobs with employer consent or under specific conditions.

End of Service Benefits – Workers receive severance pay based on years of service, with full benefits granted after ten years.

Your Identification Documents – Workers have the right to keep their passports and IDs, and employers cannot confiscate them.
